Our pets help fulfill one of our natural needs. That is to love and to be loved. It can be very traumatic to loss this special bond. Grieving is a natural process we must all face. We hope that you may find the support and compassion that you need while working your way through this heartache.
Grief support contacts
SPCA of Hamilton/Burlington welcomes anyone who has lost a pet, to attend their Bereavement Education Support Evenings. They are held the second Tuesday of every month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the SPCA boardroom. There is no cost for these meetings. The Bereavement Counselor is Julie Brooks. If you are interested in attending please contact Julie directly at 905-574-5070.
The Ontario Veterinarian College offers a Pet Loss Support Hotline. This number can be called Tuesday to Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm 519-824-4120 (ext. 53694).
The Halton/Peel Pet Loss Support Group offers a very informative and helpful site. It is full of helpful advice, informative links and offers information about seminars.
Pet Vet Hospitals runs a comprehensive Pet Loss Program which includes a range of services. Direct service includes support during and after euthanasia, 24-hour message line, email support, short-term and long-term counseling, and monthly support groups. Public education includes pamphlets, newsletters, World Pet Memorial Day and workshops/trainings.
